China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland Ambassador Jia Guide Meets with Barham Salih, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees

On October 7, 2026, H.E. Ambassador Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, met with Barham Salih, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The two sides exchanged views on future cooperation between China and the UNHCR and global refugee governance.

Ambassador Jia Guide stated that, at present, humanitarian crises break out frequently in multiple locations, and global refugee governance is confronting complex challenges. Guided by the Global Governance Initiative, China firmly upholds multilateralism, safeguards the international system with the United Nations at its core, and supports UNHCR in playing a central role in addressing refugee issues. China stands ready to further deepen cooperation with the UNHCR, and to make positive contribution to the global refugee governance through concrete actions.

High Commissioner Salih noted that, the humanitarian situation in many parts of the world remains fragile and worrying. China is an important global power, and has achieved remarkable accomplishments in various fields, including technological innovation, green development and infrastructure. UNHCR values its relationship with China and looks forward to further cooperation between the two sides in addressing the humanitarian challenges.
